Suricata: Rules, Tuning and Deployment

Chiron Exams · intermediate · Self-paced

In developmentThis course is still being brought to our full standard. The questions and notes are usable, but they have not yet been checked line by line against the vendor’s own training.

The open-source network threat detection engine end to end: the IDS-versus-IPS distinction where inspecting a copy only alerts while sitting inline can block but a bad rule breaks connectivity, the anatomy of a rule as action, protocol, addresses and options, and managed rulesets kept current and tuned; then the continuous tuning that keeps false positives from burying the real alert without over-suppressing, EVE JSON output feeding a larger SIEM pipeline, the investigative pivot from alert to flow, protocol logs and PCAP, and the performance management that prevents an overloaded engine dropping packets into a silent blind spot.

What you get

350practice questions
5full papers of 60
2course chapters · 14 minutes
100%answers explained

Papers are cut from the bank and weighted like the real exam, and no question appears in two of them. Every wrong answer comes back on later days until you have it right.

What the exam covers

The domains our question bank is built on. We have not yet transcribed this vendor’s own outline for this exam.

Two sample questions

Two of the 350, with the answer and the explanation.

1. Which keyword matches a literal string inside the inspected data?

  1. pcre
  2. flow
  3. content — correct
  4. metadata

Why: content is the fast literal match that the pattern matcher can index, which is why a rule with no content keyword is far more expensive to evaluate.

2. Which output preserves the packets themselves for later examination?

  1. The EVE JSON output
  2. The PCAP log output — correct
  3. The stats output
  4. The file store output

Why: Logs describe; a capture lets the traffic be re-examined with new questions and new rules, which no summary can do.
