ISTQB Advanced Level Technical Test Analyst

ISTQB · advanced · 120 minutes, with extra time for non-native speakers

In developmentThis course is still being brought to our full standard. The questions and notes are usable, but they have not yet been checked line by line against the vendor’s own training.

The white-box and non-functional half of the advanced level: the coverage ladder from statement through decision to modified condition with its subsumption relationships, static control and data flow analysis and what complexity tells you, dynamic analysis finding leaks that only appear over time, and technical risk factors; then load, stress, scalability and endurance testing, reliability and security with its authorisation requirement, maintainability and installability, and the technical review checklists and tool set.

What you get

136practice questions
3full papers of 45
2course chapters · 13 minutes
100%answers explained

Papers are cut from the bank and weighted like the real exam, and no question appears in two of them. Every wrong answer comes back on later days until you have it right.

Two sample questions

Two of the 136, with the answer and the explanation.

1. Why does the technical test analyst prioritise findings from static analysis rather than reporting all equally?

  1. Findings vary greatly in significance — correct
  2. Tools cannot rank their own output
  3. Prioritising is required by the standard
  4. Equal reporting takes longer to write

Why: Static analysis can produce many findings of very different significance, so the analyst prioritises them, directing limited remediation effort to the genuinely important ones rather than treating all alike.

2. Why does the technical test analyst tailor the depth of non-functional testing to the system risk?

  1. Depth is fixed by the testing standard
  2. Every system needs the same depth
  3. A catastrophic failure justifies deeper testing — correct
  4. Risk decides which tool is licensed

Why: The consequence of a non-functional failure varies by system, so the analyst applies deeper testing where a failure would be catastrophic and lighter testing where the risk is low.
