IBM Certified Database Administrator - Db2

IBM · advanced · 90 minutes

In developmentThis course is still being brought to our full standard. The questions and notes are usable, but they have not yet been checked line by line against the vendor’s own training.

Legacy, and paid accordingly: Db2 still runs European banking and insurance and its administrators are retiring. Instance against database configuration, table spaces matched to buffer pools by page size, circular against archive logging and what each permits, authentication outside the database with authorities separating maintenance from data access, then the three recovery types, the LOAD behaviour that leaves a table space pending, statistics and reorganisation, lock escalation, and HADR synchronisation modes.

What you get

Papers are cut from the bank and weighted like the real exam, and no question appears in two of them. Every wrong answer comes back on later days until you have it right.

Two sample questions

Two of the 180, with the answer and the explanation.

1. What does the RECOVER command combine?

  1. Backup and archive in one operation, writing both to the same destination
  2. Restore and reorganisation in one operation, clustering the rows as it proceeds
  3. Restore and statistics collection in one operation, so plans are correct
  4. Restore and rollforward in one operation, selecting the images automatically — correct

Why: The command reads the history to determine which backup and logs are needed and performs both stages, which reduces the opportunity for error under pressure.

2. What does the transaction log record?

  1. Changes made to the database — correct
  2. The cached pages of a buffer pool
  3. The metadata of the catalog
  4. The security labels of users

Why: The log records data changes, enabling recovery by replaying or undoing committed and uncommitted work.
