GitHub Actions practice examsIn development
GitHub Actions
Automation on GitHub: workflow syntax with events, jobs and matrices, contexts and secrets, reading runs and gating deployments with environments, authoring the three kinds of action, and managing runners, policy, security and cost across an organisation.
What you get
Papers are cut from the bank and weighted like the real exam, and no question appears in two of them. Every wrong answer comes back on later days until you have it right.
What the exam covers
| Author and maintain workflows | 40% |
| Consume workflows | 20% |
| Author and maintain actions | 25% |
| Manage GitHub Actions for the enterprise | 15% |
Two sample questions
1. An action author wants to test the action against real workflow events before release. Which approach is most representative?
- Unit tests of the action code without any workflow
- A workflow in the action repository that uses the action from the local path on pull requests — correct
- Manual invocation of the entry point on a developer machine
- A schedule trigger that runs the action nightly
Why: Referencing the action by local path inside its own repository exercises the metadata, the inputs and the runner behaviour together, which unit tests and local invocation do not cover.
2. What does the cancelled condition detect?
- A prior step passed
- A prior step failed
- The run was cancelled — correct
- When nothing else ran
Why: cancelled() is true when the run was cancelled.
