CFOT practice examsIn development
Certified Fiber Optic Technician
The practical craft of optical fibre: why fibre carries light with enormous bandwidth, low loss and immunity to interference, how total internal reflection keeps light in the core and how bending loses it, the single-mode and multimode families, and the cables, connectors and splices a link is built from; then installing fibre within its bend radius and pulling limits, terminating and fusion or mechanical splicing for low loss against a loss budget, certifying a link with an insertion loss test and locating faults with an OTDR, and the glass-shard and laser-light safety the work demands.
What you get
Papers are cut from the bank and weighted like the real exam, and no question appears in two of them. Every wrong answer comes back on later days until you have it right.
What the exam covers
| Fibre optic fundamentals and components | Not published |
| Installation, splicing, testing and safety | Not published |
Two sample questions
1. What does fibre carry signals as?
- Light through glass — correct
- Electricity through copper

- Sound through wire
Why: Fibre carries light through glass.
2. What must be respected when pulling cable?
- Maximum pulling tension — correct
- Any tension in this setup
- No tension in practice
- The colour by default
Why: Respect the maximum pulling tension.
