In developmentThis course is still being brought to our full standard. The questions and notes are usable, but they have not yet been checked line by line against the vendor’s own training.

Scale-out file storage, the former Isilon, strong in media and research: one file system across every node with no volumes to carve, N plus M protection set per file rather than per array, the private back-end network and SmartConnect on the front, access zones for multi-tenancy, then tiering and quotas, snapshots and SyncIQ replication, SmartLock retention, and the job engine and smartfail work that operating a cluster actually consists of.

What you get

Papers are cut from the bank and weighted like the real exam, and no question appears in two of them. Every wrong answer comes back on later days until you have it right.

What the exam covers

The domains our question bank is built on. We have not yet transcribed this vendor’s own outline for this exam.

Two sample questions

Two of the 162, with the answer and the explanation.

1. Which risk follows from retaining very many snapshots?

  1. The protection level applied to all of the live data is reduced
  2. The replication job to the target cluster falls behind
  3. Consumed capacity grows as the live data diverges from them — correct
  4. The metadata cache can no longer hold the directory

Why: Each snapshot retains the blocks the live file system has since changed, so capacity grows over time.

2. What does SmartConnect require in the site's DNS?

  1. A delegation of the zone name to the service address — correct
  2. An address record for each of the nodes in the cluster
  3. A reverse record for each client subnet
  4. A separate zone for each access zone defined

Why: The cluster answers the queries itself, which is how it can hand out different addresses to different clients. Without the delegation the balancing never happens.
